Exam Tips for PUC Students — How to Ace Your 12th Board Exams
Exam Tips

Almost all students you meet who have made it through their 12th board exams will tell you what a stressful time it was. The weightage and the seemingly irreversible results of the exams cause students to battle constant pressure to perform well in their exams. But this intensive pressure will ultimately result in anxiety and stress.

However, we all know that nervousness will not solve any problem. Rather than getting scared, proper preparations for the exams will be of greater help. In this article are exam preparation tips and tricks suggested by experienced teachers and board exam toppers, to help you make effective and organized preparations for the upcoming Board Exams. These exam tips will help you reduce exam stress and increase your chances to grab more than your ideal marks in the exam!

  • Develop a Studying Blueprint:

Planning and preparation is the key to success. Developing a game plan is an essential part of preparing for an exam, so you should set aside some time to prepare, as it will pay huge dividends in the long run. Preparing means understanding how board examinations work, effectively arranging subjects and breaks, testing old papers regularly, etc.

Academics recommend preparing a term calendar, weekly schedule, and daily schedule that includes regular study sessions. It’s so easy for other activities to quickly take precedence over studying, so plan your study time.

  • Prioritization Beats Procrastination:

It seems like some students thrive on last-minute ‘cramming.’ But most experts will agree, cramming isn’t effective. While it’s not possible to perform well on a test without the required knowledge, sleep is critical for academic success. Sacrificing sleep for an additional 3 or 4 hours of study is often counterproductive.

One of the most important test preparation tips you will ever hear is to give yourself enough time to study. Don’t procrastinate! It’s best to begin preparing long before the day of a test. Prioritize reading notes and solving on time and frequently review your progress.

  • Goal Setting and Regular Testing:

One of the best ways to gauge your progress is to play a little game with yourself. Picture two people一 the first is your present self and the second is your past. Your only goal is to beat your past self on mock tests and papers.

If in the last exam, you secured 60% marks, try to outdo that by scoring 70% in the coming exam. Defeat the previous percentage and always target for higher scores. Aim for an increase in overall percentage rather than considering marks in individual subjects. This will help in analyzing the exact areas you need to improve on and this will boost up scores and percentage.

  • Allocate Additional Time for Weak Subjects:

It is only human to keep building on areas you excel at. But it may not be the most ideal approach as it relates to your board exams. If you have taken up Science, you might be good in Physics and Mathematics, but not that good in Chemistry. Identify weak areas and start working on them so that these subjects do not impact the overall percentage.

Pull up old examination papers and dig a little deeper and analyze your mistakes to pinpoint blind spots in certain areas and work on them diligently to round your scores out.

  • Tutoring or Integrated Coaching:

Tutoring will prepare you for tests and exams, while tutors work with you on specific problem areas. Your grades and understanding of the subject will significantly improve when working with a tutor.

With integrated coaching, you will receive an individualized learning experience that you can’t always get in a classroom setting. Tutors can customize the lessons and activities just for you. They get to know your learning style and can adapt teaching methods accordingly.

  • Change It Up:

They say that variety is the spice of life, and it certainly helps to improve your studying. Always doing the same thing, like reading over your notes on a subject, is likely to be quite dull. Spice up your revision period by trying different exercises and techniques. Alternatives to reading your notes over include:

  1. Using the Feynman technique and explaining concepts to friends to retain better.
  2. Drawing mind maps or other summary diagrams to test what you can remember, and then checking them against your notes. Notice where you have left out a detail, or there are gaps, and go back and review those areas.
  3. Watch informative and entertaining lectures on YouTube.
